Everlight - Tactical Card Game Game & Kickstarter Review

This game aesthetic looked so impressive, from the initial design of the brand logo, and the advertisement honestly had me hooked from the get go to check out this game. Everlight is a Ford based game which is a popular trend with new TCG/CCGs that are being released on Kickstarter in recent months.

I checked out the website, simple in build, but had the print to play decks, rule book, and videos on how to play with each type of card mechanically in game.

So super excited that the Kickstarter date was coming up, I decided to follow the project…. And this is where a lot of Kickstarter or crowdfunded projects come up short is the presentation.

So there are so many reasons why this project is not just taking off, I will break down reasons why. If you are future project creators please take notes on these reasons why.

First starting off, yes this is a very simple set up they used for their project. Which isn’t bad at all…. But it comes up so short when their actual website has all the information from the whole card index, to the how to play videos, rulebook which actually explains how to play the game…. Which cannot be found anywhere on their Kickstarter, this is truly key information that is needed. Literally with just this one simple move, you could have made it a lot easier for people who want to invest into your game, and made it more of a good first impression on them.

Secondly you have now stretch goals, which yes you do not have to need them. But it does give incentive to some individuals who are looking to get some extra bonus product that can be additionally purchased or obtained for free via reaching goals.

Thirdly which is a huge common mistake that most crowdfunded projects, you did not display how much it would cost to ship. Yes you mentioned that it will be calculated after the campaign finishes, but would have been a huge plus to have the cost ranges index or something included in the project details.

Some last thoughts that I can think of off the top of my head, it’s sold as a CCG. But in design which is mentioned at some point in the risk & challenges also in its actual explanation this could possibly be a LCG or mentions TCG as well.

You see I see it as of now it’s a LCG that gives you everything you need to play. No where it explains the collectible aspects of a CCG aside from just getting a card game or even something similar to a board game. Would be nice to clear things up on like hey Alt-art cards obtained through Kickstarter exclusively. Thus even though it’s a LCG, you have given the game the CCG aspects now. If I get the Kickstarter I get Alt-Arts of X amount of cards, where the actual ones distributed to stores after words will have the base art. Just some thoughts off the top of my head, which also gives more reason for people to invest into Kickstarter.

With all this said, I still love this concept, and have actually played the game myself.

Players choose one Champion, three companions to head into battle with. During each player's respective active turn your goal is to outmaneuver, and out-play your opponents cards on the field. You will play knowledge cards from the hand to gain certain advantages to your champion, and companions. The game is played on a 5x5 grid where the champions, and companions strategically move around on the board to team up to gain advantage against your opponent cards.

It’s a lot of fun, and very entertaining. Similar to a few other notable games, it uses a grid base system. But this could have some major potential to compete with other card games, but with the lackluster of the Kickstarter it might not come to light.

But personally I still have hope myself with a comment left by the creator on discord.

“Hi there! funded or no we will be launching in September, save for pricing availability of copies and set release date, that's for sure 😬👍”

With this said I do hope that something does come out of it, and maybe we get a relaunch Kickstarter that can potentially bring this game to its full potential. I messaged them after the Kickstarter finished up, and still no reply if they will pick this project back up or not.
