There is so much more than just Critical Role that is so highly recommended through all the main outlets for DND style streams. I find myself personally never a huge fan of DND streams in general. Before anyone says anything, yes I have DMed quite a few DND 3.5E plus 5E games myself.
Which brings me to a very specific DND podcast called Don't Trust The Smiling Dungeon Master.
All I have to say is that this group is so much fun to follow with their adventures thus far. I started following them earlier this January in which I still even now follow them even though I might be a couple episodes behind. This amazing group of adventures has brought me laughter into tears at points with the fun situations they get themselves into in this 5E homebrew.
You follow an group of adventures
Grak, the Barbarian
Hecate, the Warlock
Miguel, the Paladin
Lily, the Sorcerer
Vyvyen, the Monk
Grubs, the Cleric
As they travel through the land of Avalas, a land known for its lush forest blessed by the goddess Chauntea. So far into their journey they have already faced many challenges, life threatening battles that have left them all to learn new lessons, and secrets of the world that they travel through.
I personally just clicked with this series because it felt like some of the campaigns that I had with my group of friends. Which mind you this does have some explicit content, which does make for quite funny situations or almost crazy rioting situations.
Do I have a favorite character?
I do actually I love the whole group, but I do have one favorite which I will not spoil so much that joins their party later into the campaign.
Do I have a favorite moment?
I truly enjoy the whole entire podcast so far, but I do have some highlight moments. Episode 17 is such a good episode, like one of my personal favorites.
Plus with that episode 24 being the most hysterical, I laughed so hard during this episode truly a gem.
How do I over feeling about the overall story?
What really makes this so enjoyable is the choices that the adventures make during each episode, and the story morphs as those choices are made. So a weird example would be like reading a really good book and you get to a really good point of story. Mind you not saying the previous story wasn’t good by any means, it's just as good. But the really cool turning point happens for me personally in episode 17, and from there on it just takes this amazing transformation into what I feel will drive the main plot of the story that just keeps on getting better.
So I recommend giving them a check out found in our TTRPG Podcast section of our website. Now one thing is for certain for all these adventures is that the most important lesson of all is…..
DON’T TRUST THE SMILING DUNGEON MASTER!
